Tutorial

Jo wanted too catch up with me to see where I am at with my work. My next steps were to look at taking some photographs of arial view and also begin embroidering some of my prints, she clearly stated that I need to speed up and get churning experimental work out so that Its not all to similar when coming to show my portfolio.

From this I began to look through my Pinterest board for something to spark my interests to influence my next steps. Jo had pinned this piece by an artist named Jelle Martens, who works with images of landscapes and lays them together using a geometric composition. I am going to print and photocopy my own photography, just images that I have taken over the past few weeks and use them to create a similar style piece, with hope that from it I will be able to blow up detail and use it for shapes and prints.

Tutorial catchup

After my presentation, as it was muddled slightly with different starting points, I needed some guidance from Jo. I showed her my research on arial views of landscapes and I also showed her the work of Jeane Myres and how she looks at architecture for the inspiration for her work. Together we have decided that it would be best to focus on the landscapes and arial photographs rather than the architecture as I will have more scope.

The plan:

  • Take photographs of arial views including: roads, pavements, surfaces, mud, cracks ETC
  • Research artists such as:                                                                                 Christine White
    Joanne Chapman
    Paul Clay
    Richard Diebenkorn
    anselm Kiefer
    Robert rauschenburg
    Ingrid Calame

For my self and others to understand the direction of my project I am going to write a brief summary.

My very first inspiration was the Park Guell mosaic tiled roof and also the photograph that I took of inter-wining twigs from the residential trip. From here I began to look into geometric shapes. This lead me to mono printing and layering the geometric shapes from photocopies of my photos. Starting unit 5 and looking for inspiration from the VAM, I found myself drawn to the geometric Iranian architectural drawings, giving the research of the VAM more thought I also came across the Asia collections which had a vast array of Buddhist sculptures, as i explained in my presentation post, the buddhist faith is a pilgrimage to find enlightenment. From this I had the thought of maps and journeys. I began further research on maps and found that attractive geometric shapes where found from arial views. I am now looking at developing prints inspired by arial views, I will bring in different media inspired by the artists I research and techniques I feel most comfortable with.
